Field Trip!: Jerseyfest 2013

Saturday I had an opportunity to slip away for the day and visit “Jerseyfest Model Kit & Statue Fair”. I had learned about Jerseyfest from a flyer at Resintopia, a show I attended in the spring. From what I have been able to gather, Jerseyfest started around 2006 as a party of like minded figure enthusiasts meeting in someone’s basement. It grew to about 150 people and last year moved out of the basement into a hotel venue. This year was my first year attending and it was held at the Crowne Plaza Hotel in Fairfield, NJ.

Historicon 2013

I was going through some pictures on my camera, saw a few from Historicon 2013, and thought I should post them with a little bit of chat.

Last year I made the pilgrimage to Virginia, a substantially longer haul for me than Lancaster, but had the trip cut short by an illness in the family. Arrived late Thursday afternoon, worried about the family member all Friday, and headed home early Saturday.  So 2012 was a bit of a bust.

2013! New year! Let’s give the new site a serious chance!

GZG-ECC 16 - Part the Second

Huzzah! At this rate I’d say it’s 50/50 that my After Action of GZG-ECC 16 will be done before GZG-ECC 17. Life intervenes….

So where were we? Ah, yes, Saturday morning. I started the day playing "Drop Zone Z" by Jeff Aubert.

Star Trek: Into Darkness

OK, I tend to keep this blog about wargames, figures, and models, but today I am going to step away from all that and vent. Today I went out and saw Star Trek: Into Darkness, the second film in the rebooted Trek franchise. This is going to be filled with spoilers and rage, spoilers and indignation, and, well, spoilers. So you have been warned, I will hold nothing back. Really. So..

So don’t say I didn’t tell you...

GZG-ECC 16 - Part the First

Ah well, better late than never. At least I am posting about two weeks earlier than last year! Here it is the highlight of my gaming year – GZG-ECC.  It was once again at the Treadway Inn in Owego NY. This year was number 16 which built on last year’s change of being open to other games than just Ground Zero games.

My traveling partners were once again the father and son team of krimso and Chris. We got a later than usual start as Steve had some morning work commitments he could not get out of. We arrived a little before 6pm, just in time to meet with friends Jeff and Bubba, up from Virginia, for dinner at Las Chicas Taqueria.
Suitably fortified, it was off to our first game at 7pm.

Jeff, Bubba, and I played in “Puma Down”, an African mid-sixties scenario run by The Kinsey. The rules were “I Ain’t Been Shot Mum” by Too Fat Lardies.

Field Trip!: Resintopia 2

Needing a break from the winter doldrums, I got a chance to spend a couple of hours at Resintopia 2. This was my first time at this relatively new show. It is dedicated to garage kits and is located in Fairfield, NJ.

Yowzer! I think this appeared in a recent Amazing Figure Modeler

The show was a three day event and consisted of a vendor area, a model contest, and a series of speakers and workshops.

Blue Moon SF#2 complete!

Hello! It's been a while! What with prep for GZG-ECC, actually going to GZG-ECC (post to follow), and some business travel, things have kept me away from blogging. Oh yeah, a minor flood in the Lead Covenant HQ as well. Still recovering from that one. The pile on top of the painting table is even larger.

But I have finished the Blue Moon  SF#2 building. It was for a Firefly game krimso and I made for GZG-ECC.

Hot in Latvia!

Ok, file this under nerdy engineer stuff.

I was looking at the stats for this blog and I noticed Latvia in the list. Now Latvia is a fairly small country so I was surprised they made it into the top 10.

But this got me thinking... if I looked at the pageviews by country population, this would say something about where you are the most popular. Yeah, I's definitely an engineer thing, gotta crunch the data. To the data!:

Look at that! On a per capita basis, I am more popular in Latvia than any where else on earth. I am almost four times more popular in Latvia than I am in the land of my birth! More popular than if you summed the native English speaking countries on the list. Go figure!?!

So Latvia, I salute you! Dievs, svētī Latviju! God bless Latvia!

Maybe I'll take my next vacation there.

And thanks to all of you for reading this blog. Next post, back to painting.

A little holiday W.I.P.

Hi! Happy New Year!

I thought I would post a couple quick WIP shots. During the holidays I decided to take a break from gaming figures and started painting "Girl in Hoodie" by The Basement. It was purchased at the MFCA show back in May from Red Lancer's.

The only part close to done is the face. I was trying for a sun burnt look.
